 Lao Stew

Gaeng Bawt
Pork, Chicken, Duck or Tofu
A typic
al Yuan Kalom stew from our home village. This stew is has a potpourri of vegetables flavored with roasted rice, pepper wood, banana flower, lemon grass, fennel, shallots, basil. If you see pieces of wood in your stew this is called Mai Sakhan or pepper wood. You can eat it. Be careful it can be spicy.
Aw Lahm
Pork, Chicken, Duck or Tofu
A typical
Luang Prabang stew. The ingredients are more finely cut than Gaeng Bawt. Some ingredients are seasonal but the main ones are egg plant, chili pepper, rattan shoots, banana flower, pumpkin shoots, lemon grass, fennel, shallots, basil. If you see pieces of wood in your stew this is called Mai Sakhan or pepper wood. You can eat it. Be careful it can be spicy.
